One day after school, Evie was intent on digging in my bathroom cabinet. She pulled out some lipstick and smeared some on her check. Then she pulled out my nail polish bag and asked for help to get it open. After the bag was open, she pulled out a color she liked and continually asked, "paint, paint"? I told her she had to sit very very still. I asked her if she could do that, and she nodded her head, yes. I asked several more times and she kept nodding. We went into the kitchen, and she sat still long enough for me to paint her nails! When I was done, she didn't understand that she had to sit still long enough for it to dry, so some of the paint smeared. That whole afternoon she admired her pretty toes and said, "wow"! It was the first time I've painted her toes. Since I don't really paint mine, I wonder how she knew what to do!

Summer

Pool Time

Our community pool has been open for a week! This is when you know summer has arrived!! Judd and I took Evie to swim in the toddler pool. She was very timid, anxious, and scared when she first got in. She wouldn't let us put her down. Needless to say, we were very worried that the pool would be a bust!! After we switched over to her regular bathing suit and she got used to the chilly water, all was well. She had a blast and cried and cried when it was time to leave! Yay! I look forward to many more pool days!

End of the Year Program

Last night we went to Evie's end of the year program called, "A New Creature." For the past couple of months Evie has been learning a song, and the only part I could get her to do was act like a monkey and sometimes a fish. Anyway, the ones and twos were on stage for the opening song. It was so cute, they just looked like they were shocked, amazed, or terrified of all the people! They were also a bit confused on why their parents were dropping them off at school at night! The opening song was cute. The main chorus went like this: Who's the king of the jungle? Who's the king of kings? J-E-S-U-S! That's Jesus! The little ones were pretty good the whole five minutes! We picked up Evie after the first song and went home for some family time before Evie went to bed.

Every day we think about how thankful we are to have such dedicated, loving, and patient women teach and nurture Evie. They not only teach her songs, shapes, colors, and numbers, but also the love and community of Christ. We are so thankful for them!

My First Half Marathon

I did it! I survived my first half marathon. The morning of the race the sky was covered with thick gray clouds. It was not the best weather condititions. We had huge gusts of winds and constant drizzle or mist. At the beginning of the race it was 70 degrees and by the end it was 55 degrees! I wasn't going to give up after all the work and training I put toward this one day. The race started at 7:30. I was set to run with pace group that would finish in 2 hr 35 minutes. I had a running buddy. I was set! Well, at about mile 1 my running buddy fell behind. At mile 3, the pace leader stopped to tie her shoe. The two people I was relying were behind me! I continued on forward. I ran with another first timer for a while. Then at mile 7 I took a quick water, snack, potty break and set out for more! Once I hit mile 10 the race volunteers informed us that a storm was approaching and the race would close in 30 minutes! I had to really push myself the last three miles! At mile 12 I started to really feel the pain and fatigue set in. Then as we turned the corner I could see the finish line in sight (they cut the race short). Whew! What a relief. It was the best feeling to see Judd and Evie waiting for me at the finish line!

In the end the storm went around us and the race continued! With the possibility of inclement weather, I think they cut the course short by a little over a half mile. I finished in 2 hours 22 minutes, an average pace of 10:55 minute mile- much better than I had expected! I am proud to say that I survived a very adventurous race day with the crazy weather! I think I can call myself a runner! I look forward to some quick two or three mile runs!

Crawfish Boil

We just went to our very first crawfish boil. It was really fun! Judd and I both tried crawfish for the first time. Our friends' Nicky and Ricky were in charge of the crawfish, and they did a great job!
